We were struggling to figure out what to do first.
Trim the windows?
Finish the kitchen?
Fix the bed?
So many little tiny things that needed to be done before we could say we had FINISHED the tiny house. The big stuff was easy enough to complete. It was obvious what needed to be done.
But once we got around to making the small decisions, the small choices- paralysis hit. And it hit hard.
And as progress stalled- we started doubting ourselves. Started panicking about telling our landlord that we wanted to move out on such and such a date…maybe we should push it back a few months. Maybe we should…what about if we….
We had to take a step back. We had to re-evaluate.
I suggested Pat and I went out for dinner. There, far away from our troubles, the tiny house and our indecision- we made a list together, of the SMALLEST things that we needed to do. And then we did them.
Restarting our momentum was the jump we needed to get going again. To finish the tiny house. To pack up our flat and move in full time. And five years later I can see that same indecision valley on the horizon.
Building a house is a whole other animal, 100 times more complex than a tiny house but still fraught with the same issues.
So this time around, we won’t let the little stuff get us down. Don’t let it get you down either. Start small, make a list and just keep ticking one thing off after another.
Good luck!
